kroq battle for la results and videos
we came, saw, we rocked. our beloved fans arrived in droves. in true militaristic fashion, the thatwasthen army invaded the knitting factory for the kroq battle for los angeles. as the battle ensued, fans were gained, sound pressure levels exceed the norm, and consequently numerous pairs of socks went missing due to being rocked off.
however, because of a discrepancy of only 10 or 15 fans, we unfortunately did not win the cash.
you are the real winners. here is the full show in hd video thanks to the brilliant camera work of our good friend and manager adam young. you be the judge.

Rumors of Benny Dacks death, a sham, mockery
Los Angeles, CA – July28, 2009
Though it seemed Tuesday morning that Benny Dacks, famed bassist to the hot rising Los Angeles musical outfit thatwasthen, had met his maker, it is clear now that he is unharmed and not at all in a state undesirable.
After legendary partying, it seems Benny Dacks will be able to make the show on Thursday, a day thatwasthen plans to, in the words of frontman Brenton Sinay, “Rock so hard, we leave nothing but a pile of dust.” All is well in the thatwasthen camp, as they all have a new-found appreciation for the opportunity to play the KROQ BATTLE FOR LOS ANGELES – FINAL ROUND this Thursday, July 30th for the chance to win air time and thousands in cash!
Surviving without money
As part of my daily routine, I was Stumbling along the interwebs and came across an inspirational article about a 48 year old man named Suelo. Suelo lives in the Utah desert with no money, house, or income. Living off the land is second nature to this guy. He drinks tea made from Juniper leaves and chefs up roadkill, lizards and wild onions. The best part of this article was a quote from Suelo:
“I’ll do what creatures have been doing for millions of years for retirement,” he says. “Why is it sad that I die in the canyon and not in the geriatric ward well-insured? I have great faith in the power of natural selection. And one day, I will be selected out.” Until then, think of him like the raven, cleaning up the carcasses the rest of us leave behind. [Style.com]
Life is ______ .
I’d love to hear what you guys think about this.
are we swimming in a shark tank?
most recently i’ve come to the discovery that the internet… myspace and facebook and other social sites, has reached a new age. I’ve so often felt drawn to what the interwebs have to offer, but, for the first time in my life, i’m starting to feel lost in it all.
i ‘ve been told all my life, that i must push for greatness in order to be great. the conviction i bring to my daily life is maybe sometimes unfounded, but it is real in that way that faith is real. so, my identity is very much related to that “go! go! go!” lifestyle. thatwasthen may not have much to show for their greatness other than a handful of rockin’ shows and a great first ep. but does having a rushed, low-rate, unoriginal music video, a banner with a logo written in briar and a flash-animated website make our content any better?
when i see myspace, i see a tank filled with desperate and hungry sharks. i see a slough of people and bands that might not ever make it. why? because of content. and yet, still feeling lost in it all, i can say that i do not fear the future for thatwasthen. in fact, i welcome it. you see, i can feel it in my bones when i play with my brothers in music, that we have a future. a very long, bright future. have you ever been to a show? have you ever had that feeling?
if you’re saying yes, then i implore you… make our music your music. listen very hard to what we’re trying to say. watch very carefully what we are trying to do. when you get it, point it out to someone else and see if they get it. Once they do… well… then we’re on our way, aren’t we?
