thatwasthen live at UCLA Dance Marathon 2011
The UCLA Dance Marathon against Pediatric AIDS was an amazing success. Not only did 2500 students dance (still dancing as we speak) for a great cause, but we got a chance to rock the crowd with a few well known covers such as “Twist and Shout” by The Beatles and “Shout” by the Isley Brothers. Thanks to everyone who came out today.
My Mistake
Here is the third peek at the new album, which will be available everywhere on 1/11/11. The song is called “My Mistake”. If you want a free copy of the album, come to our show at The Troubadour on Saturday.
My Mistake
don’t take it personally if the sun doesn’t shine when you’re with me.
fireworks, now just a hazard; accident becomes disaster.
when did the storm clouds roll in to saturate you with derision?
i loved you when we were certain; now i see you closing the curtain.
so if you’ll excuse me for my mistake
i expect to give when i take
*i don’t believe that we have seen the last of bad days
i’m burning to learn what they mean when they say
she works her ways*
i’ve been trying to find the time to make it shine for you a little more.
i take my bow, aiming it upwards; arrows rained, leaving it covered.
watch as guilt blankets your face, and makes a fool of me in this place.
take a bow, standing ovation. roses for the promise you’re breaking.
so if you’ll excuse me for my mistake
i expect to give when i take

BestNewBands.com Review on Storymaker Video
We would like to wish everyone a safe and happy new year. For the second time, Best New Bands has featured us on their homepage spotlight. Claire Gallagher wrote some pretty awesome things about us a few weeks ago, and followed it up with this epic post about our video for “Storymaker”. Be sure to read the rest on their site.
“In my opinion, it is a pretty unanimous sentiment that every audiophile’s favorite pastime is the good ol’, all-American car concert. What sense of pride cometh when you finally get the hang of driving with your knee, enabling you to air guitar like your freaking Jimmy Page or beat the nonexistent crap out of a nonexistent drumset like your Dave Grohl in Them Crooked Vultures, all while yelling I AM A GOLDEN GOD. Sure, this might give rise to a few strange looks from passing drivers, but when you’re sweating and finishing with THANK YOU LOS ANGELES you really won’t care about such trivialities. What I’m getting at here is that this car-concert video from thatwasthen (check out their other spotlight here) is not only relatable but entirely awesome.”

thatwasthen wins Best Band at UCLA Spring Sing 2010
On May 14th, 2010, Southern California Rock Band thatwasthen won ‘Best Band’ at UCLA‘s annual Spring Sing.
Spanning the course of over 60 years of tradition, Spring Sing is one of the oldest traditions among the Bruins. Since the end of World War II, the school has honored the talents of their student body with an annual contest. Judged both by audience vote and celebrity guest judges, this contest is one of the most popular events on campus.
Competing against several other UCLA based bands, thatwasthen swept the competition with a knock out performance of “Mr. Politician.” Here are a few behind the scenes photos. As soon as the footage from the show becomes available, you can expect to see it here. Thank you to everyone involved in Spring Sing 2010, as it was an amazing success.
