What happened to the balls!?
Sorry for this in advance. I didn’t know where to turn to express my… hmm… disappointment, I guess? I promised myself i wouldn’t use my blog as a place to spread negativity, but since i’m aiming it at no one in particular, I think it’s fair to liken it to firing a gun at a range, or running a long distance (both of which i don’t do, lol). So here’s the burning question…
what the fuck happened to music!? where did the balls go in the rock scene today? i hear so much lame ass music everywhere i turn. i can’t go to the radio, because they’re too busy licking the underside of the post-”emo” indie rock music scene’s scrotum to realize that two hollow-body guitars, a 3-piece drumkit and a music sequencer does not make for rockin’ music!!!! I can’t go to the live scene, because most of the local music is an extension of what “rock stations” plays on the radio. I certainly can’t go to the masses for good new rock music because, well, hey… they’re listening to the radio for the next big thing. I’m going nuts!!!
I see bland band after bland band get a “break” or whatever because they’re fitting right into this perfect little niche where popular rock sits today. Ingenuity? Virtuosity? Passionate honesty? FORGET IT! You won’t find kids making music like that these days, because they’re too caught up in what they feel like they should sound like, or what they should look like, or how they should act.
I’m tired of “musicians” taking the tragically hip approach to their on and offstage personas. What they don’t realize is that since the beginning of music’s new-found evolution, no one is too cool. no one will end up like led zeppelin or U2. Not with that attitude, anyway.
Music should inspire one to move. Not to stand there and worry about what everyone else would think of you should you choose to actually move and express yourself with your body!!! A simple truth that many people do not realize is that Music is the realest thing most people can or ever will grasp. Many cannot grasp the concept of universal brotherhood, or the concept of a higher power or even of sharing with one another! But music has a scientific connection to the entire universe and to the human soul. It is what drives an individual to gyrate in uncontrollable ways using only rythmn and melody as a guideline. If you read everything is vibrating posted by benny dacks, you will understand more.
I will close with this… I am not insulting your music. I am not saying thatwasthen is better than your band. I am not telling you that your music doesn’t deserve to be lauded and noticed… I am merely saying that it must be real. it has to have some fucking balls!!! IT HAS TO STAND FOR SOMETHING!! I do not respect that which does not respect itself and those that came before it. There is an order to this universe, and it starts with the definitive 1 or 0. thatwasthen is a 1. we simply… are. this will be the definition of our success… being us.
