District (Over) 9 (Thousand)
Yesterday I had the pleasure of witnessing an amazing film. I think District 9 is one of those movies that simply has such an intriguing and complex concept that it’s hard to go wrong. Throw in a little violence, incredible alien weaponry, a smidgen of pathos and some good old family sentimentality and you have a winner.
The film’s style was nothing entirely novel, but it was still highly effective. I really enjoyed the use of stock footage–it truly enhanced the realism of the entire experience. That might be why I enjoyed it…in a world full of computer generated images a little attention to subtle details goes a long way. And thankfully, unlike Cloverfield, they didn’t stick with the shakey-cam the entire time.
Of course you might find yourself wanting to vomit for different reasons…but I’m not giving the whole thing away!
This has been a movie review with your friendly neighborhood Nicky P.
Peace!
