My Mistake

Here is the third peek at the new album, which will be available everywhere on 1/11/11. The song is called “My Mistake”. If you want a free copy of the album, come to our show at The Troubadour on Saturday.

My Mistake

don’t take it personally if the sun doesn’t shine when you’re with me.
fireworks, now just a hazard; accident becomes disaster.
when did the storm clouds roll in to saturate you with derision?
i loved you when we were certain; now i see you closing the curtain.
so if you’ll excuse me for my mistake
i expect to give when i take

*i don’t believe that we have seen the last of bad days
i’m burning to learn what they mean when they say
she works her ways*

i’ve been trying to find the time to make it shine for you a little more.
i take my bow, aiming it upwards; arrows rained, leaving it covered.
watch as guilt blankets your face, and makes a fool of me in this place.
take a bow, standing ovation. roses for the promise you’re breaking.
so if you’ll excuse me for my mistake
i expect to give when i take

My Mistake

Sure, I’ve done regrettable things in my life. I’ve chosen the wrong path. I’ve tasted the wrong ice cream flavor. Trusted the wrong person.

I know I’ve also done things in my life I will never cease to be proud of. The kind of impromptu, spur-of-the-moment, caution-to-the-wind thing, and it’s never blown up in my face.

My point is that I’m tired of torturing myself for the things I haven’t or did do, and the repercussions ensuing. I am a confident, brash, focused individual who realizes the error of his ways. THEN I beat myself up over them. Then I question them, examine them and grow from them. Isn’t that what we’re supposed to do?

I remember describing myself in an earlier post about Benny Dacks during Christmas where I mentioned how much I love dwelling on the horror and shock of misfortune instead of being a problem solver. How my initial reaction to a difficult situation was to lament that moment and spend useless energy recruiting others to justify my stance. But I began to realize that the energy spent spreading hate and negativity costs twice as much than to ignore the feelings of disgust and malice and choose to focus on the positive things.

This is how I will learn. This is how I will grow. And as I push further into the deep, dark woods of my being, and the beautiful pain and divine torment of life and all it is to know and be in this wicked world, I will know I can always turn around and say, “thatwasthen”.

Change is inevitable, growth is a choice.

We love our music so much that we decided to climb up onto Nicky’s roof and let the world know. Here’s an acoustic version of a new song we’ve been working on for our follow up to Q.E.D.. The song is entitled “My Mistake” and is a work in progress.

This video was recorded right before we left for our UCLA Spring Sing 2010 sound check.

State of Affairs

house-of-blues-logoFirst and foremost, I’d like to say thank you to everyone who came out to The House of Blues on Saturday. We rocked one of our favorite venues to a packed crowd of fans, friends and family. It was truly an awesome night.

Consider this to be a “State of Affairs” concerning our band, thatwasthen.

We are currently in the process of booking shows for our gaps in March and April. We have begun to reach out to our fans in San Francisco and Santa Monica. We are open to suggestions as far as where to play and who to play with. If any readers out there would like to make a suggestion contact us.

We’ve also been writing a great deal of new material. If you were there on Saturday, you heard our latest tune: “My Mistake“. We decided to unleash this bluesy, Hendrix driven jam just one night prior to the show. We had the opportunity to rehearse for 3.5 hours and all agreed that it needed to be played. We’ve got a few more songs in the works which we will be debuting at our upcoming shows. We look forward to hearing your feedback, as always.

We are increasing our efforts to reach out to as many radio stations as possible by sending out press kits containing our music, photos, videos and a short biography. We will be contacting college based, national, and internet stations and DJ’s.

This website will have a store by the end of the month. I am currently testing the software needed to make it as easy (and cheap) as possible to purchase Digital Downloads, CD‘s, DVD‘s, T-Shirts, and anything else we think up in the mean time. This store will be the one stop shop for all your thatwasthen needs, allowing you to pay either with a major credit card or your PayPal account.

On a final note, I’ve been tweaking the server configuration files for the past 2 weeks. Hopefully, you’ll notice that our new design loads much faster now.
